FAQ Construction work on Reschenstrasse

with local detour

Extensive construction work is currently taking place on the Reschenbundesstraße (B180), which will significantly improve road safety for guests and locals. The focus is on the new construction of the Kanzelgalerie, which, with its length of 400 meters, particularly secures the neuralgic section of the route. These measures will help to significantly reduce the risk of falling rocks and other hazards, making driving on the Reschenstrasse even safer in future.

During the construction work, accessibility to the region is guaranteed throughout. A well-developed alternative route via Engadiner Straße (B184) and Martisbrucker Straße (B185) will ensure that traffic can continue to flow smoothly. An additional travel time of approx. 15 to 20 minutes can be expected here. Despite the necessary restrictions, the precautions taken are designed to minimize the impact on traffic flow while ensuring the highest safety standards.

From September 2, Martinsbrucker Straße/Martina - Norbertshöhe will be closed to cyclists.

The construction of the 400-metre-long rockfall gallery is essential to ensure safety on the Reschen-Bundesstraße B180 between Kajetansbrücke/Pfunds and Nauders. The Tyrolean provincial government has emphasized that increased rockfalls due to extreme weather conditions have made the decision to carry out the construction work urgent.

Erste Sperr

  • First closure phase: September 2 to 27, 2024 - closure from Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Second closure phase: October 8 to December 20, 2024 - complete closure around the clock.

During the construction work, cars will be diverted via Engadiner Straße (B184) and Martinsbrucker Straße (B185).
HGVs, vehicles with trailers over 6.5 meters and buses over 13 meters will have to wait for the closures or take a wide detour. 2. bis 27. September 2024 – Sperrung von Montag bis Freitag jeweils von 8 bis 18 Uhr.
Zweite Sperrphase: 8. Oktober bis 19. Dezember 2024 – Komplettsperrung rund um die Uhr.

From September 2, Martinsbrucker Straße/Martina - Norbertshöhe will be closed to cyclists. During the period of the closures, cyclists can use Altfinstermünz/Bierweg as a detour. From Punds via the cycle path to Altfinstermünz, from there take the Bierweg/Fahrweg (watch out for the gravel road) up to Hochfinstermünz and then continue on the B180 Reschenbundesstraße towards Nauders. This alternative route is not suitable for racing bikes. Alternatively, you can take the public buses or a bike shuttle to Nauders.

Bicycle transport from Pfunds/Kajetansbrücke to Nauders can be organized individually with local transport companies:
Schmid Reisen - contact +43 (0)664 1217050 or info@bus-taxi.tirol
SFL Taxi - contact +43 (0)5476 6700

The heavy vehicle charge is collected for vehicles over 3.5 tons. This is organized with the detour traffic in a simplified procedure. Vehicles registered over 3.5 tons and taking the detour via Swiss territory must stop at the Swiss customs office in Martina and pay €5 (per journey and vehicle).

There is good news for the winter season: from December 20, 2024 to March 9, 2025 and around the public holiday on October 3 (German Unity Day), the Reschen main road B180 between Kajetansbrücke/Pfunds and Nauders will remain open to two lanes of traffic.

The province of Tyrol is building a new 400-metre-long Kanzelgalerie on the B180 Reschenstraße in the Pfunds area in order to sustainably improve road safety. The construction project stretches from kilometer 26.00 to kilometer 26.80 and, in addition to the gallery, also includes extensive road construction work and the erection of reinforced concrete retaining walls.

The construction work includes the removal of old retaining walls, extensive rock clearance work and the relocation of rockfall protection fences. These measures are necessary to prepare for the future closure of the gap with the existing Tschingelsgalerie and to meet the highest safety requirements.

In 2024, important work will be carried out, such as securing the excavation pit, rock removal and the construction of a temporary winter road for two lanes of traffic. During the construction phases, traffic will be partially diverted, with the Kajetansbrücke bridge serving as an alternative route. The total construction costs of 39 million euros are being borne by the province of Tyrol, and the construction is being carried out by Berger & Brunner Bauges.m.b.H.

Despite the construction-related restrictions, every effort is being made to keep the impact on all road users as low as possible and at the same time to significantly increase safety on the Reschenstrasse.
