FAQ Construction work on Reschenstrasse
with local detour
winter season 2024/25
The Kanzelgalerie on the B 180 Reschenstraße between Pfunds and Nauders is one of the largest construction projects in Tyrol and serves to protect against falling rocks and other natural hazards. A 400-metre-long protective structure made of solid reinforced concrete ensures safe traffic routing on this important connection. During the construction work, however, there will be temporary traffic disruptions, which will be regulated by detour or temporary closures. In this FAQ you will find all the important information on traffic routing and the planned construction phases.
- From March 10 to May 2, 2025: Full closure again. Detour via Engadiner Straße (CH) and Martinsbrucker Straße (A). This detour will only lead to a delay of around 15 minutes, so that the flow of traffic remains largely unimpeded.
- From May 2025: Single-lane traffic management with traffic lights across the construction site until fall 2026. Temporary closures are possible and will be announced in good time.
05.05.2025 to 09.05.2025
12.05.2025 to 16.05.2025
19.05.2025 to 23.05.2025
To carry out rock clearance work, the B 180 Reschenstraße between Pfunds/Kajetanbrücke and Nauders will be closed from 08:00 to 12:30 and from 13:30 to 18:00. With the exception of vehicles with trailers over 6.5 metres and buses over 13 metres, traffic will be diverted via the B 185 Martinsbrucker Straße and B 184 Engadiner Straße as well as Swiss territory during these periods. Unauthorized vehicles must wait for the duration of the closure or take a wide detour around the route.
- Fall 2026: Completion of construction work with single-lane traffic management.
- September to November 2026: Further closures (daily from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.) for expansion and asphalting work.
- December 2026: Completion of the Pulpit Gallery.
Passenger cars will be detoured between Pfunds and Nauders from the Kajetansbrücke bridge via Engadiner Straße (B184) and Martinsbrucker Straße (B185) and therefore partly via Swiss territory. The additional diversions is around 6.6 kilometres and takes approx. 15 minutes longer. HGVs, vehicles with trailers over 6.5 metres and buses over 13 metres are not allowed to use this route. They must take a wide detour.
Important information about Martinsbrucker Straße: The B185 is a winding mountain road (ten hairpin bends) with a steep longitudinal gradient in places. Winter equipment (especially snow chains) may be required even in poor winter driving conditions.
During the closure periods, cyclists can use Martinsbrucker Straße (A) and Engadiner Straße (CH) until further notice.
Motorhomes are not subject to any restrictions and may use the diversion route. Caravan combinations are only permitted if the trailer is no longer than 6.5 meters. However, vehicles over 3.5 tonnes must pay a heavy goods vehicle charge in Switzerland. Anyone driving a motorhome over 3.5 tonnes on the diversions via Switzerland must stop at the Swiss customs office in Martina and pay 5 euros per journey and vehicle.
The construction work on the Reschenbundesstraße does not affect winter operations in and around Nauders in any way. All winter sports facilities, from the slopes to the cozy huts, are accessible as usual. Our infrastructure is well prepared to ensure you have an unforgettable winter vacation despite the construction work. Enjoy the snow and the variety of activities that Nauders has to offer.
Even during the construction work on the Reschenbundesstraße, all summer leisure activities in and around Nauders are available to you without restriction. Whether hiking, cycling or relaxing days in nature - the construction work has no impact on your summer activities. Thanks to the well-organized detour and precautions, you can enjoy your stay with us to the full.
The heavy vehicle charge is collected for vehicles over 3.5 tons. This is organized with the detour traffic in a simplified procedure. Vehicles registered over 3.5 tons and taking the detour via Swiss territory must stop at the Swiss customs office in Martina and pay €5 (per journey and vehicle).
In future, the Kanzelgalerie will protect the Reschenstraße from natural hazards such as falling rocks and enable safe traffic routing in a particularly endangered section.
